Emergency Plumbing in Davidson
1000+ five-star reviews
Water pouring through a ceiling at midnight. A toilet filling the bathroom floor. A hot water system that died before the school run.
When something has gone badly wrong in Davidson, you need a licensed plumber on the phone now, not a message service promising a callback tomorrow.
This page is the emergency desk for the whole site. It covers what counts as urgent, what to do in the first sixty seconds, and how the callout runs at 2am when water is moving.
The team handles urgent work across the suburb and the surrounding ridge country. Every call is answered by a licensed plumber, every visit starts with a $0 call out, and every job gets a fixed written price up front.

When to ring immediately, and when it can hold until morning
Not every plumbing fault is an emergency, and telling the two apart saves you stress and money. The short version: if water is moving somewhere it has no business being, if gas is involved, or if the house has no working water at all, call now.
A slow drip, a stiff tap or a merely sluggish drain can usually wait for a daytime visit. We will still come at 2am if you would rather not lie awake wondering.
- Burst pipes and split flexi hoses, anywhere in the house
- A toilet overflowing or refusing to shut off
- No hot water across the whole house, especially with a leaking tank
- Any smell of gas, indoors or near the meter
- Sewer backing up into showers, floorwastes or the yard
- Stormwater surging into a lower-level room during heavy rain
- Dripping taps and leaking showers that are contained
- A single slow drain with everything else running freely
- Hot water that works but runs out faster than it used to
- Planning work such as renovations, installations and upgrades
Unsure which list your problem belongs on? Ring and tell us what you are seeing. A plumber will say honestly whether it needs someone tonight or can hold until morning.
Bush blocks, old hoses and gully storms: what breaks urgently here
This suburb has a specific emergency profile, and it is worth knowing before something lets go.
Houses ageing together
Terrain that concentrates water
A summer twist
The emergency grid: five problems, five pages
These are the calls that cannot wait, and the page each one deserves. Start with the one that matches what is happening in your house right now:
Burst pipes
Water where it has no place being, from split copper to blown flexi hoses
Blocked drains
Gurgling, backing up, or refusing to drain at all
Toilet overflowing
The bowl rising, the floor wet, the cistern running
No hot water
Cold showers, a silent tank, or pooling under the unit
Gas leaks
Any smell of gas, anywhere on the property
Why 2am in this suburb looks different
Late-night emergency calls here have a shape you can predict.
The flexi-hose burst
The hot water failure
The storm night
Those are the nights the phone runs hot. They are also the ones where knowing your water meter location ahead of time pays for itself.
What counts as an emergency: the honest breakdown
Active leaks are the clearest category. A burst pipe can move hundreds of litres an hour into walls, ceilings and subfloors, and the damage compounds by the minute.
Flexi hoses are the hidden version, and they are everywhere in homes of this era. The test is simple: if you cannot stop the water with a tap, or shutting that tap kills the supply to half the house, it is an emergency.
Gas sits above water on the urgency scale, always. A smell indoors, hissing near a meter or appliance, or a yellow-orange flame where it should be blue means you act now.
Isolate at the meter when that is safe, ventilate, avoid switches and flames, and use a phone well away from the house. Our gas leaks page walks through the isolation steps in detail.
Total loss of supply usually means a burst somewhere you cannot see, which loops back to the first category. Loss of hot water is more nuanced.
It is an emergency when the tank is leaking, when there is a scalding risk, or when the household genuinely cannot function. A tank that has simply gone quiet and dry often points to urgent hot water repair rather than catastrophe, but a plumber should confirm it.
| Problem | Signs | Do this now | Response guidance |
|---|---|---|---|
| Burst pipe or flexi hose | Water running, hissing, wet ceiling or cabinet | Shut the mains tap at the meter | Call immediately, water damage compounds fast |
| Gas smell | Rotten-egg odour, hissing at the meter | Isolate the meter, ventilate, no switches | Call immediately, from outside if possible |
| Toilet overflowing | Bowl rising, water at the bowl base | Turn off the cistern or wall isolation tap | Call now if the floor is flooding |
| Sewer backing up | Gurgling, waste in showers or floorwastes | Stop using all water and toilets | Call now, health risk if it sits |
| No hot water, tank leaking | Cold showers, pooling under the unit | Isolate the unit's valves if accessible | Call now, leaking tanks can fail fully |
| Stormwater surging | Water entering a lower room in rain | Move belongings, sandbag if possible | Call now, then see our stormwater page |
How it works
After-hours: how the 2am callout works
The after-hours callout is the same machine as the daytime one, run at speed. You ring (02) 9072 0528 and a licensed plumber answers, not an answering service reading from a script.
Three answers, straight away. Tell the plumber what you are seeing, and they will say what it likely means, what to stop using or switch off, and when the van can realistically be there.
Vans stocked for this suburb. That means flexi hoses and isolation fittings, cistern parts, valve gear for ageing hot water units, and drain machines and jetters for the root and leaf blockages the canopy guarantees.
Made safe tonight, finished properly. Most urgent jobs are secured and completed in a single visit. If a full fix needs a part ordered in, the plumber makes the situation safe tonight and books the completion.

How it works
Make-safe steps while you wait for the van
- 01
The water meter
Every house has a mains isolation tap at or near the water meter, typically toward the front boundary. Find yours before you need it.
Turning it clockwise stops all supply to the house, which halts a burst hose or split pipe instantly. If the meter tap is stiff, do not force it with pliers; tell the plumber on the call and they will bring the tool for it.
- 02
Gas isolation
The gas meter has a valve lever that sits parallel to the pipe when on. A quarter-turn so it sits across the pipe shuts the supply.
Reach the meter only when there is no strong smell of gas between you and it. Isolate, ventilate, then step outside before dialling. When the route to the meter is unsafe, leave the house instead and say so on the call.
- 03
The hot water unit
Most units have isolation valves on the cold inlet, and a pressure relief valve on the tank itself. If a unit is leaking, shutting the inlet valve stops the tank refilling and draining through the fault.
If water is running from the relief valve continuously, that is a fault worth a call, but not necessarily a midnight one. The plumber will tell you which on the phone.
- 04
Toilets and fixtures
Individual fixtures usually have their own small isolation taps at the wall or under the cistern. A toilet that will not stop filling can be shut off at its own tap without killing the rest of the house.
Knowing that one trick is often the difference between a wet floor and a dry one while you wait.

Where the emergency van goes
We are based right here on the Northern Beaches and cover the ridge-and-gully country in every direction, with the same terms whether the job is up the road or two suburbs over:
Beyond tonight: the rest of the network
An emergency visit often uncovers the reason behind the emergency. Roots in the sewer line, a stormwater system fighting the fall of the land, a hot water unit one failure from the end.

Good questions, straight answers
Questions from Davidson locals in the middle of the night
What should I shut off while the plumber is on the way?
For water faults, close the mains tap beside the street meter, usually near the front boundary. For gas, swing the meter valve a quarter-turn, open windows, and keep clear of switches, flames and anything that sparks.
Is a burst flexi hose an emergency?
Yes. These braided connections behind vanities and under sinks fail without warning in houses of this era, and the water spreads through cabinetry and flooring within minutes, so shut the mains first and ring us straight after.
How does an after-hours callout actually work?
You ring and a real plumber answers, then gives you a realistic arrival window during that first conversation. The van carries the common failure parts, so most urgent jobs are made safe and finished in a single visit.
Will a Sunday-night visit cost more than a weekday one?
No. Nights, weekends and public holidays are all priced the same way as a Tuesday morning, with a $0 call out fee and one fixed written quote before any tools come out.
Is sudden hot water failure common in this suburb?
It is, because housing stock built mainly from the late 1970s onward means many original-era units are decades old and simply reach end of life, usually without much warning.
Can a gas smell wait until business hours?
Never. Shut the gas at the meter provided that is safe to do, ventilate from outside where possible, and use a phone well away from the house. Gas jobs always jump the queue, whatever the hour.
Do you handle stormwater overflow during a storm?
Yes. Lower-lying homes in the gully sections cop surcharging drains when bushland catchments shed leaves and silt in heavy rain, and we clear and make those lines safe around the clock. More general questions, including pricing and warranty detail, live on our FAQ page.
